Sheep
Global average water footprint: 6100 litres of water for 1 kg of sheep meat.
In an industrial sheep farming system, it takes 18 months on average before a sheep is slaughtered.
The sheep produces 28 kg of fresh carcass, 4 kg of edible offal and 4 kg of skin together with wool.
A sheep consumes about 40 kg of grains (barley, oats, wheat, corn, canola meal, mill screen, soybean meal and other small grains) and 4 cubic meters of water for drinking and servicing the farmhouse.
This total volume of water is distributed over the three major products based on their relative market values and product weight obtained per ton of live sheep.
