Wheat

Global average water footprint: 1300 litres of water for 1 kg of wheat.

Wheat consumes about 790 billion cubic meters of water annually, which constitutes 12 % of the global water use for crop production. International trade in wheat is responsible for 75 billion cubic meters of virtual water exports annually, which is about 6% of the total sum of international virtual water flows.
