I am an irrigation engineer and expert in water footprint assessment. Currently, I am lecturer/researcher in Remote Sensing and Crop Water Productivity at IHE Delft. My research and project work contribute to addressing water and food security challenges. I am interested in integrating remote sensing data and human interaction to models to understanding the interaction of water and nutrient in crop production at field, irrigation scheme and river basin scales; identifying the effectiveness of management measures in closing productivity gap and improving irrigation performances within a safe and just space for society.
During my PhD at the University of Twente, I examine the effect of irrigation and agronomic measures on the green and blue water-balance components, N fluxes and yield using AquaCrop, APEX and shadow-water-balance models. Further, I assess the cost-effectiveness of management strategies for reducing the consumptive and degradative water uses in crop production; examine the trade-offs between the blue and grey water footprint (WF); and explore the scope for minimising green, blue and grey WF using WF assessment tool written in Python. As a postdoc in Wageningen University, I work on a project: Checks and Balances for RUE assessment: reducing yield gaps while accounting for nutrient- and water fluxes across spatiotemporal scales.
